A NOTE ABOUT FRANCISCO REYERO’S
ENGLISH EDITION BOOK

AND BERNARDO DE GÁLVEZ ENTERED WASHINGTON

A little over a year ago, in March 2019, Francisco Reyero published the book Y Bernardo de Gálvez entró en Washington, in which he very carefully analyzed why and how a portrait of the great Spanish hero, whose victories over the British were decisive for the triumph of the American Revolution, was hung on the United States Capitol.

Such remarkable event meant the fulfillment of the agreement made by the United States Congress on May 9, 1783. It also brought to light the decisive contribution of Spain to the Independence of the 13 colonies that had rebelled against English tyranny on July 4, 1776, and decided to break from their submission to Great Britain.

The book has been a great success: it is already out of print. And this is due not only to the importance of the subject, but also to the magnificent and detailed account written by Francisco Reyero, who thoroughly researched, both in Spain and in the United States, the circumstances leading to the great and happy episode that culminated when the aforementioned portrait was hung 231 years after the U.S. Congress decreed it.

Today, we want to inform the public that Francisco Reyero has just completed the English language version of his successful book, with the help of Luis Alfonso DuLuc, as translator, and of course, Unicaja Foundation that provided the funds for the publisher Los Papeles del Sitio.

This publication, intended for the American public, is an important instrument to continue spreading the life of Bernardo de Gálvez and the decisive help that Spain provided to the Independence of the United States. Help that started even before the beginning of the war until the Battle of Yorktown, in which the funds contributed by Spain were the decisive factor for the triumph achieved by George Washington in October 1781.
